How much would Gavi cost Liverpool to sign in January?
Liverpool enjoyed an impressive start to the new Premier League season but fixtures are coming thick and fast and that’s already taking its toll on Jurgen Klopp’s squad.
The Anfield side were held to a 2-2 draw against Tottenham on Saturday and the Liverpool manager will know that new recruits in January may make or break the second half of their season.
If Liverpool are to invest in new players, it will undoubtedly come in the form of the team’s midfield options, which will likely need some youthful exuberance invested into it before too long.
Fortunately for Klopp’s side, a potential solution has presented itself in the form of Barcelona midfielder Gavi.
According to El Nacional, Liverpool are intent on making a move for the Barca star either in January or the following summer transfer window. So much good is Gavi and how much would he cost the Anfield club to sign in 2022?
Is Gavi what Liverpool need?
Remarkably, Gavi has made around 20 appearances for Barca’s first team to date but has already made a huge name for himself within the world of Spanish football.
Despite not really featuring for the senior team last season, Gavi was called up to Luis Enrique’s Spain national team for the Nations League semi-final and final against France and Spain respectively.
Against players twice his age, Gaiv thrived and quickly established himself as an incredibly talented young player that was ready to take Spanish football by storm. And from the centre of Barcelona’s midfield, that’s what he’s gone on to do this season.
As a boisterous, box-to-box midfielder, Gavi would fit perfectly into Klopp’s tactics at Liverpool and would be a useful member of the squad in the short-term, before likely establishing himself as a key player in the years to come.
How much would he cost?
Due to his age and his contract at Barca only running until 2023, Gavi is currently valued at just €25 million and could potentially be signed for as little as €30 million by Liverpool.
Gavi’s new contract with Barcelona will be for five years and salary increasing from season to season. The current release clause for €50m will be removed. 🔴⏳ #FCB
It’s matter of time to discuss final details and then enter into the ‘contract signing stage’. Step by step. https://t.co/LnmFoFlChe— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) December 20, 2021
According to reports in Spain, the midfielder has a release clause that stands at an impressive €50 million - which is perhaps what Barca would demand for their cherished youth prodigy.
However, that could be about to change, with football journalist Fabrizio Romano reporting that Gavi's proposed new Barca contract would remove the release clause and significantly increase the amount of money needed if Liverpool want to sign him anytime soon.
