Fernandes, Hincapie, Haaland? Mourinho's Real Madrid summer transfer demands revealed
Jose Mourinho’s transfer shortlist has been revealed by Spanish media, with Manchester United and Arsenal among the teams that could be affected by the new Real Madrid manager’s summer transfer plans.
Mourinho was formally appointed as the new coach of Los Blancos earlier this week and the Portuguese legend has quickly closed in on a number of deals to kick-start his tenure.
Bernardo Silva has rejected a move to Barcelona in order to move to Madrid on a free transfer after leaving Manchester City, while Ibrahima Konate will also join on a bosman deal following the expiry of his contract at Liverpool.
Denzel Dumfries is expected to join the duo as Mourinho’s first signings after the Dutchman agreed terms to sign from Inter for €20 million to replace club captain Dani Carvajal at right-back.
All three players are understood to have signed their contracts following Florentino Perez’s re-election as Real Madrid president and only their formal arrivals are pending due to them participating at the 2026 World Cup.
However, Real Madrid are now expected to add more quality across the pitch, with Spanish outlet El Debate giving an insight into six players who have emerged as the next targets on Mourinho’s shortlist.
Fernandes, Gvardiol and Haaland – inside Mourinho’s dream summer at Real Madrid
Mourinho is believed to have asked Real Madrid to reinforce the midfield with two players and restructure the defence with ‘three or four’ incomings, including Silva, Konate and Dumfries.
It is claimed that Mourinho is ‘requesting’ the signing of Mateus Fernandes as the club’s new midfield signing, although West Ham are said to be asking for a fee of €93m – a figure which Real Madrid ‘will never reach’ unless a ‘firm stance’ is demanded by the coach.
Fernandes is also wanted by Man Utd and the 21-year-old is believed to prefer a move to Old Trafford, although being the subject of a personal request from Mourinho may influence his thoughts if West Ham lower their asking price, with a deal currently said to be ‘not impossible but complicated.’
In defence, Mourinho’s alleged primary target is Josko Gvardiol, who is said to have a price tag of €60m from Manchester City, with Arsenal duo Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori the backups, although all three players are described as being ‘in regular talks with their agents about joining Real Madrid’.
Hincapie is believed to have ‘dreamed’ of playing for Real Madrid since his childhood and, with both him and Calafiori competing for the same spot at Arsenal, a deal for one could be possible for €50-60m.
Enzo Fernandez is being considered as another target in midfield, along with a third ‘secret’ player, although the Argentine’s situation is similar to Fernandes’, with Chelsea’s asking price of €138m seen as something Real Madrid will hold off on for now.
Finally, while a €150m offer for Julian Alvarez was immediately rejected by Atletico Madrid and brushed off as political point scoring, Real’s interest is described as ‘genuine’ and the club are still in contact with the 26-year-old’s representatives.
Perez is keen on a high-reputation signing and there is a belief that Erling Haaland will join Real Madrid ‘sooner or later’, with the Spanish giants considering bringing his signing forward to this summer if the situation allows it.
