REVEALED: Vinicius Junior's contract demands that are preventing Real Madrid extension
Vinicius Junior’s financial demands are allegedly preventing Real Madrid from extending the superstar’s contract, throwing his future at the club into doubt.
The Brazilian international’s current deal expires in 2027 and he has been strongly pursued by Saudi Arabia for a big money move including an eyewatering contract worth €1 billion.
The 25-year-old is already among Real’s highest earners alongside Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham and the Spanish giants are reluctant to break their wage structure for his renewal, particularly after an underwhelming campaign last season.
French outlet Le Journal du Real have gone into details over the financial details of the impasse, with Vini Jr’s current contract said to have a fixed salary of €15m before performance-incentivised bonuses, which could take the total to around €20-25m annually.
However, the forward’s representatives are reportedly asking for a basic salary in that region, while also demanding a signing-on fee of €20m, which has led to a ‘slowdown’ in negotiations.
Despite the tense talks, Real are believed to be willing to continue talks and ‘make an effort’ to close the gap between the sides, although Vini Jr is ‘expected’ to lower his demands and, ‘above all’, return to a much higher level of performance than last season.
Vini returning to best in timely fashion for Real Madrid
Having been labelled as a front-runner for last year’s Ballon d’Or award, Vini’s form tailed off after missing out on the award and he finished the campaign with 11 La Liga goals – down from 15 the previous season.
This year, however, the winger has started the season strongly with five goals and four assists in Real’s eight league matches after finding his form alongside Mbappe in Xabi Alonso’s new-look attack.
It is believed that Vini will ‘eventually win the negotiations’ even if Real are not willing to meet his complete demands, especially given the interest in him from the Saudi Pro League.
While no formal offer arrived from the kingdom during the summer, that was largely because of Vini’s reluctance to leave Europe, however the situation could change if no new contract is agreed in the coming months as he enters the final year of his deal.
