Brazil always have a host of talent coming through the ranks, and one such player is midfielder Andrey Santos, who is emerging at Vasco da Gama.

Santos, who is 18, is seen as the “Brazilian Busquets” for his composure and calmness in midfield and has been linked to a host of clubs in recent months.

Barcelona are one such club interested in him and Sporting Director Jordi Cruyff has personally been overseeing his progress to get a deal over the line for the talented youngster.

Now, the Blaugrana have a strategy to secure his signature and get ahead of any competition they may face in the future for Santos.

Barcelona have strategy for Santos

Vasco da Gama insist that any club must meet the €40 million release clause if they are looking to sign Santos, and Barcelona see him at the successor of Sergio Busquets.

Busquets’ deal with Barcelona expires at the end of the current season and he is set to leave the club in the summer, with a move to Major League Soccer looking likely.

Barcelona aren’t keen on forking out the fee Vasco da Gama are demanding and are trying to work out a way to pay a lower fee to the club to sign Santos.

They are considering negotiating a lower fee and in return, the Brazilian club can keep Santos on loan until June 2023, in a bid to fend of interest and make a quick move for the player.

Other than Barcelona, there is also interest in Santos from Premier League side Newcastle, who considered making a €35 million move for Santos in the summer but opted against it.

They are forming a Brazilian core of their own with the likes of Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton in the squad, and would be looking to add to it in the coming months, with a January move a possibility.
