Sergio Ramos: Real Madrid legend offered chance for stunning return
Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos is currently a free agent and has been offered the opportunity to make a big return to European football.
The 39-year-old centre-back is widely regarded as one of the greatest players ever, having won a string of major honours during a 16-year stint at the Bernabeu. He won La Liga five times with Los Blancos and also picked up four Champions League titles while with the Spanish side.
He recently left Liga MX side Monterrey after two seasons in Mexico and is therefore available for nothing.
He has been offered a shock return to European football and, more specifically, to Paris, where he previously spent two difficult seasons.
Rather than PSG, though, ambitious Ligue 1 rivals Paris FC had made a move for the iconic centre-back, according to FootMercato.
Big-spending Paris FC make Ramos bid
The club from the French capital has had sizeable funds poured into it by new owners who are working in conjunction with Red Bull and splashed out €57 million on new arrivals in the summer.
Paris FC could be one of the biggest spenders anywhere in the January transfer window, meanwhile. Le Parisien reports that the club is seeking as many as six new recruits to bolster their side and move up the Ligue 1 table.
Sergio Ramos emerged as a target as a result.
“Always on the lookout for players capable of making a difference on the pitch and enhancing the club’s image, the Parisian club has targeted the Spanish defender,” FootMercato reports.
“Paris FC see him as a natural leader capable of bringing real attention to the club and further strengthening the Parisian defence. However, despite the interest, the Spanish player is not tempted by this option, preferring a project with greater sporting visibility. The matter, however prestigious, is therefore unlikely to progress any further.”
