Liverpool have enjoyed a tremendous start to the season, which has not only seen the club remain unbeaten in the Premier League but also race to the top of their Champions League group.

However, as last season showed, Jurgen Klopp’s well-oiled machine is only a few notable injuries away from the wheels falling off it and as such new recruits in the January transfer window will be vital.

According to Fichajes, the Anfield side may look to plug a few holes up front by making a move for Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic in the coming transfer window.

So would the Serbia international be a smart signing for Klopp’s team and how much would he cost?

He would be a very cheap option

Despite having a contract until 2025, Jovic is only valued at €21 million because he’s struggled to make any real impact at Madrid since joining the club in 2019.

Signed after his exploits in the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt, Jovic has managed just two goals and three assists in 38 appearances for the Spanish side in over two years. In other words, he’s free to go if Liverpool make a decent offer.

However, a transfer fee may not even be required. Last season Jovic was sent back to Frankfurt on loan to pick up game time and a similar move to Liverpool could suit all parties involved.

As such, Jovic could prove to be an entirely inexpensive addition to Klopp’s squad in the January window.

He still has plenty of talent

Considering Jovic’s misfortune at Madrid fans would be forgiven for thinking Jovic’s is already well into his career, but the player is only 23 and still has plenty to offer at the highest level.

As he showed at Frankfurt before his move to the Spanish capital, with 27 goals and seven assists in a single season, Jovic is perfectly capable of being an outstanding forward player at the highest level.

The Serbian international’s stock may be low now, but under the right manager and in the right team, he could quickly return to the kind of form that forced Madrid to hand over €63 million for him in the first place.
