Real Madrid 'reach agreement in principle' to sign Yan Diomande with deal 'hours' from completion

Real Madrid have reportedly made a breakthrough with the signing of Yan Diomande after reaching an agreement in principle for the RB Leipzig star.

Madrid stepped up their chase to sign Diomande this week following Paris Saint-Germain’s reluctance to meet Leipzig’s demands over an asking price.

Diomande had been holding out for a move to Paris but his camp broadened their stance to other clubs after growing frustrated at PSG’s failure to push towards a deal.

Although the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City all reportedly signalled that they would be willing to bid in excess of €100 million for Diomande, the 19-year-old gave his priority to Real Madrid after the Spanish giants made their intentions clear.

And now, according to transfer reporter Ben Jacobs, Los Blancos have struck an agreement with Leipzig for Diomande, with personal terms also already in place.

A fee is unknown as of yet, although Leipzig had rejected an offer of €90m plus €10m in add-ons from Madrid last week, with the Bundesliga side thought to be wanting closer to €120m fixed.

Diomande set to complete Real Madrid move after Mourinho influence

Reports in Spain have also claimed that Diomande is ‘hours away’ from being announced as a Madrid player, with a belief that a deal could be completed as soon as Monday.

While sources in Germany insist that a deal is not as advanced as suggested, it is believed that Real Madrid are still in pole position to complete Diomande’s signing but nothing has been agreed as of yet, according to Sky Sport Germany.

Jose Mourinho is believed to have been key to Diomande’s decision, with TEAMtalk claiming that the new Madrid boss personally outlined how he sees the winger fitting into his squad.

In particular, Mourinho is believed to have stressed that he wants Diomande to play alongside Vinicius Junior rather than replace him despite speculation over Brazilian’s future.

The Portuguese coach believes a front three of Diomande, Vini Jr and Mbappe could compete with any attacking trio in the world, including PSG’s.

While there may be question marks over whether Real Madrid have fully agreed Diomande’s signing, it appears a matter of when, not if, the Leipzig star becomes the latest big money arrival at the club as a deal edges to completion.
