Jadon Sancho is the transfer story that just won’t go away.

From the moment of his fallout with Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag back in September, Sancho has appeared in the headlines more than he has on the pitch.

Man Utd struggled to shift the winger under Borussia Dortmund came to their aid with a loan deal in January, and even with the 24-year-old starting to rediscover something like an acceptable level of form in the Bundesliga, his future remains in doubt.

Sancho, it appears, wants to stay with Dortmund. Dortmund want him to stay. Man Utd want him to go. Simple? Wrong.

Finances are complicating a permanent deal, with BVB claiming poverty in the face of the Red Devils’ asking price according to the latest reports from Sky Sports Deutschland.

Man Utd are asking for €46 million, according to the source, with Dortmund unable to make that price.

The Old Trafford side are resigned to taking a major hit on a player they signed for €85m in the summer of 2021 but who has failed to live up to expectations.

Sancho bouncing back at last

Remarkably, Man Utd got a good deal on Sancho for that price. At his peak, the England winger was worth €109m, according to FootballTransfers’ estimates, yet since his transfer to Old Trafford, his value has declined month on month.

It is only now that he is back at Dortmund that Sancho is starting to repair the damage. His Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) is now €28.5m, with that figure up €1.5m from March – the first sign that his career is starting to bounce back.

This figure is, however, well below Man Utd’s asking price.

It may be by that summer, that Sancho is approaching an ETV of €40m for the first time since Ten Hag put him in exile, but with the player so clearly unhappy at Old Trafford, the power in this deal is in the hands of Dortmund.

Man Utd are, therefore, in no position to dictate terms in this deal and if the Red Devils can get anything above Sancho’s estimated value they will be doing well.
