Bayern Munich have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Everton's Amadou Onana, according to The Telegraph.

Onana has also been linked with Arsenal and Barcelona, though United always appeared to be the most interested club.

However, Bayern are in desperate need of a holding midfielder and could be able to beat the Red Devils to his signature.

The likes of Konrad Laimer and youngster Aleksandar Pavlovic have often played the 'number six' position for Thomas Tuchel's side this season.

And while they are by no means bad players, Onana would be a significant upgrade if he were to join.

The Belgian international has shone since joining Everton last January and looks ready for the step up to a European powerhouse.

Previous reports had valued him at around £60m, though it would not be a surprise to see Merseyside club set an asking price closer to £80m.

Bayern are also in a better position to contend for major trophies than United.

Man Utd target two Everton stars

As well as a midfielder, United are also hoping to add a central defender in the summer transfer window.

And, Everton have another player that the Red Devils could be interested in.

Jarrad Branthwaite has been one of their targets for a considerable period – FootballTransfers reported their initial interest back in August.

He has developed well under Sean Dyche this season, having spent last season on loan at PSV, and earned his first senior international call-up this month.

At 21 years of age, he would fit United's long-term project under their new ownership group.
