Jamaica national team manager Heimir Hallgrimsson has offered Mason Greenwood the chance to play for the Caribbean nation.

The Man Utd-owned attacker - on loan at Getafe - is considered unlikely to play for England ever again following his much-publicised legal issues.

Despite being capped once by England in 2020, Greenwood is still eligible to play for Jamaica through his father, Andrew.

Reports recently have suggested that Greenwood could declare his international allegiance to Jamaica and Hallgrimsson has now publicly called out the attacker.

What did Heimir Hallgrimsson say “I really don’t like to talk about ‘what if’, but this, of course, has come to our mind,” the Icelandic coach told the Athletic.

“I would love to have him in my team. Like all coaches, I would like to have the best players in our team, but it’s always up to the player himself if he wants to do it.”

Greenwood joined Getafe on loan last summer after Manchester United concluded their investigation into the criminal charges he was facing last year, which have since been dropped.

United announced that Greenwood would look to continue his career away from Old Trafford, having not played a game since January 2022 following his arrest by police.

New Man Utd part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe revealed last week that a decision has still not been made on whether to bring the on-loan Getafe attacker back to United at the end of the season.

Greenwood has impressed for Getafe this season. He has scored seven goals and got five assists in 25 games in all competitions.

But sentiment among fans and the public in England is still negative towards Greenwood, making any return to international football unlikely with the Three Lions.
