It remains to be seen whether Busquets will push ahead with leaving - there is the idea that he will wait for the club to win the La Liga title and then make an announcement.

Busquets has been mulling over the decision for a long time and he will look to act fast so as to not leave his current club scrabbling.

Busquets has spent 15 years in the first team, being part of one of Barcelona’s greatest-ever sides. The likes of Andres Iniesta, Lionel Messi, and Gerard Pique have all since gone.

It’s been reported that it’s essential for him that he goes out on a high - and if Barca win the league next weekend, it would serve as a perfect opportunity to do that.

Xavi and the club wish for him to stay for a final year, and it is thought that they will make one final push to ensure that he remains among the squad for the 2023/24 campaign.

But of course, Barcelona are struggling financially - they had offered terms but the reduction was considerable, earning 30 per cent of his current deal.

For Busquets, money is not everything when it comes to deciding his future, given his affection for Barcelona, but it is a factor nonetheless. Speaking to DAZN after Barcelona beat Osasuna 1-0 recently, Busquets said of his future: “I have my future more or less in my mind already, now there are a few days off and when I return I’ll probably notify the coach.”
