Fabrizio Romano has revealed an important update on Chelsea’s search for a permanent manager, with Luis Enrique starting to fall behind Julian Nagelsmann in the race.

The Blues are on the lookout for a new boss following the sacking of Graham Potter earlier this month.

Frank Lampard was hired as interim coach until the end of the season, allowing Chelsea the time to find a permanent manager in time for the next campaign.

Until now, the two hot favourites for the job have been Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique, with both coaches holding talks with Chelsea.

But Romano has revealed that Chelsea have now cooled their interest in the Spaniard, meaning that Nagelsmann has strengthened his tag as favourite.

What did Romano say about Luis Enrique and Nagelsmann? "We know that talks between Chelsea and Julian Nagelsmann have been going on for three weeks,” Romano explained.

“Nagelsmann and his agents are speaking to Chelsea, so nothing is over there.

"What we can say about Luis Enrique is that Chelsea have cooled their interest in him as their head coach for next season. It is not over yet. They had many conversations about the job, and Luis Enrique was in London with his agent 10 days ago for discussions.

"The initial conversation was positive but, in the last round rounds of talks, Chelsea were not so happy with some of the points and this is why at the moment Chelsea have cooled their interest in Luis Enrique.

"Luis Enrique is also appreciated by Tottenham and he has also been approached by some national teams.

"The race is open still for the Chelsea job. They will speak to many candidates but Julian Nagelsmann remains the favourite."

Nagelsmann has been out of work since his surprise sacking by Bayern Munich a few weeks ago, while Luis Enrique left the Spain national team job after the 2022 World Cup.
