Frank McAvennie believes that Darwin Nunez is becoming impatient at Liverpool.

McAvennie, the former West Ham striker, stated that while Nunez has the potential to succeed, he is not doing enough at present. In the recent 0-0 draw against Chelsea, the attacker was substituted despite the scoreline remaining goalless, and he was left out of the starting lineup for Sunday's match against Arsenal.

Nunez came on as a substitute for the last 30 minutes of the game, apparently picking up a knock ahead of the Premier League encounter.

Since joining Liverpool in the summer, Nunez has started in 17 out of 23 Premier League appearances, but he has only played the full 90 minutes in five of those games and has frequently been substituted before the end of the game.

Nunez 'losing patience'

McAvennie stated that Liverpool is purchasing players for the future and that Nunez is likely to be a good player, but he is currently not meeting expectations.

The former striker also pointed out that Liverpool is missing Sadio Mane and that they must return to winning ways, saying to Football Insider: “I can tell you this – I think he is losing patience. Liverpool are buying players for the future.

“There is no doubting that he is going to be a good player, I can see that a mile away, but at the moment, ‘no’. Man City went out and bought [Erling] Haaland who is going to break all the records now, and that is the difference.

“It just shows how much Liverpool are missing [Sadio] Mane. [Roberto] Firmino has not been playing much, [Mohammed] Salah has been playing with different players every week. “It is strange but they have got to get back to winning ways.“
