Chelsea have had a busy summer transfer window, with two players coming in and another set to arrive soon, as they prepare to close the gap on the Premier League’s top two.

Thomas Tuchel’s side added Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly to their squad, with a deal in place to sign Brighton’s Marc Cucurella in the coming days.

With that, the squad is shaping up nicely despite a few departures and they’ll be hoping to compete on all fronts with what they have at their disposal.

So, how could Chelsea line up in the 2022-23 season?

They should retain their trusted 3-4-3 formation, used frequently by Tuchel since he took over in the side back in January 2021.

Who will Chelsea line up with next season?

In goal, Edouard Mendy should continue with the Senegalese impressing Tuchel consistently, giving the coach no reason to drop the goalkeeper.

The back line will see the biggest changes as Kalidou Koulibaly comes in, filling in the shoes of Antonio Rudiger who left after the expiry of his contract at the end of last season.

Thiago Silva will retain his place in the middle of the back three and will hope to have a fruitful last few years of his career at Stamford Bridge.

The left-sided centre-back could be Marc Cucurella, who impressed in that position for Brighton towards the end of last season and should continue there for Chelsea.

At wing-backs, Reece James was excellent in the last campaign, and Ben Chilwell was too before a long-term injury affected his and Chelsea’s season.

In midfield, the duo of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante should take their places, with Mateo Kovacic there to deputize when needed.

Up front, new signing Raheem Sterling will take his place on the right, hoping to provide more attacking threat and get some goals, as Chelsea have now lost Romelu Lukaku.

He’ll be supported by Mason Mount on the left side and Kai Havertz up top, who has continuously played there for Chelsea since the arrival of Tuchel as manager.

Things could still change slightly in the final weeks of the transfer window, but this could well be the team that plays in the initial matches of the season.
