On Monday, the 33-year-old told reporters while on international duty with Poland that he sees his Bayern career as over.

What did Lewandowski say?

“My era at Bayern is over,” Lewandowski said.

WHO ARE THE MOST VALUABLE PLAYERS IN THE WORLD?

“I don't see any possibility to continue playing for this club anymore.

“Bayern’s a serious club and I believe they won’t keep me, I don't want to play there anymore. A transfer is the best solution. I hope they don't stop me.”

This sparked a furious reaction from Bayern CEO and former legendary goalkeeper Kahn, who hit out at Lewandowski for his actions.

What did Kahn say?

“I can't tell you why Robert chose this path.

“Public statements like that don't get you anywhere.

“Robert became world footballer of the year here twice in a row – I think he should know what he has at Bayern.

“Appreciation is not a one-way street.”

Barcelona have made Lewandowski their number one target for the summer transfer window and they have been in talks to sign the former Borussia Dortmund star since March.

Lewandowski is keen to make the move to Camp Nou as he would like one final challenge at a bit club before the end of his career.

Bayern are desperate to keep Lewandowski next season but have begun looking around for possible replacements given the striker’s determination to leave.
