Dani Alves will not be able to play for Barcelona in the Europa League for the rest of the season after the Blaugrana opted against naming him in their squad for the knockout stages.

Following the closing of the January transfer window, every squad still in the Champions League, Europa League or UEFA Conference League have to submit their final squads for the remainder of the competitions.

Clubs are only allowed to register three new signings from January.

Barcelona brought in four new faces during the winter window. Ferran Torres joined from Manchester City in a deal that could eventually reach €65 million, Adama Traore arrived on loan from Wolves and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang signed on a free transfer from Arsenal.

Dani Alves also returned to Barcelona as a free agent for a second spell at the club ahead of January, although he couldn’t be registered until the transfer window opened.

Thus, Barca could not register all four of their new signings and they decided to leave the veteran Brazilian out.
