Liverpool attacker Mohamed Salah has refused to confirm that his long-term future is with the Anfield club.

Speculation has arisen in recent days that Egypt international Salah is unsettled at the Reds. Mohamed Aboutrika even went as far as saying that the forward is “not happy” at the club.

While the 28-year-old is not publicly agitating for a move, he notably failed to commit himself to his employers beyond the end of the current campaign during an interview with AS.

And he did not rule out playing with either of Spain’s big two.

“I think Madrid and Barcelona are top clubs,” he said. “We never know what is going to happen in the future, but right now I’m focused on winning the Premier League and the Champions League again with my club.”

Asked how much longer he sees himself with the Reds, he replied: “That’s a tough one, but right now I can say that everything is in the club’s hands. Of course I want to break records here and, I repeat, every record in the club, but everything’s in the hands of the club.”

It has been suggested that one of the reasons he is unsettled is because he was overlooked for the captaincy against Midtjylland in the club’s final Champions League group match. Salah did not condemn Jurgen Klopp for the decision, but he did admit his frustration.

“Honestly, I was very disappointed. I was expecting to be the captain… but it’s a manager’s decision, so I accept it,” he said.

Salah is in prolific form with Liverpool, having netted 13 times in 13 Premier League matches. Indeed, he seems to be gaining in strength this term, with five goals and two assists arriving in just four encounters.

Additionally, he has scored three times in six Champions League matches for the Premier League leaders.
