Liverpool urged to sign Alaba after Van Dijk injury

Liverpool have been urged to fill the gap left by Virgil van Dijk’s season-ending knee injury with the signing of Bayern Munich star David Alaba.

With his contract set to expire at the end of the 2020-21 campaign, the Austrian will be free to talk to other clubs in January.

And the possibility of a move during the mid-season window has been opened up by the recent collapse of talks over a new deal.

Bayern could now look to cash in on a player who would otherwise leave for nothing in the summer.

According to former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy, Jurgen Klopp should be lining up a move in order to bolster his defensive options this winter.

  • He told Stadium Astro: “In terms of his ability, he absolutely fits. He’s a super player.

“I suppose what you’d have to be looking at from Jurgen Klopp’s perspective is the balance in the squad moving forward when everyone is fit.

“Or, do you look short-term and get the best option in possible? That would be him.

“I’d want to do it, personally, you can’t have too many players.

“But, I think there would be a lot of competition.

“I think he would certainly add quality and strength in depth but, there will be a lot of takers for Alaba.”
