Manchester United centre-back Harry Maguire is in line for a £10 million payoff should he leave the Old Trafford club this summer.

Maguire has found himself increasingly peripheral to Erik ten Hag’s plans this season, beginning the season as captain but rapidly falling out of the starting XI. By the end of campaign, the Dutchman was referring to Bruno Fernandes as his captain.

Indeed, it is widely expected that Maguire will leave the Red Devils this summer, with interest expected to come from elsewhere in the Premier League, although there were rumours of a shock PSG move earlier this year.

Ten Hag even admitted on Monday: “No-one would be happy with this situation - he is not as well.”

Regardless, if the former Leicester man does depart, the Daily Mail reports that he will be due £10 million from the club.

Why Maguire will get bumper Man Utd pay out

Maguire still has two years left of his Manchester United contract, which earns him a reported £190,000 per week. If he were to leave, that salary would likely be halved.

According to the Daily Mail, in order to get the player off their books, they would have to make up the shortfall in the difference between his current wage and that he would receive at his new employers. That comes to an estimated £10m.

Ten Hag and United are likely to see that money well spent given that Maguire has fallen to fifth in the central defensive pecking order, with left-back Luke Shaw now preferred ahead of him.

Indeed, there have even been reports that the manager will look to strengthen this area further over the course of the summer transfer window.

Maguire has an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of £24.5 million (€28.5m), but reports suggest United will aim to recoup around £30m for him – around of third of which could be used to cover his wages.
