Real Madrid are reportedly interested in bringing former Barcelona prodigy Xavi Simons to the Santiago Bernabeu.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder spent most of his youth in Barcelona's famous La Masia academy and rightfully earned himself the wonderkid tag.

In 2019, he went from one superclub to another when he was prised away from Catalonia by PSG. With opportunities for first-team minutes at a premium, however, he decided to head back to the country of his birth.

Back in the Netherlands, Simons has been nothing short of a revelation. The attacking midfielder has been one of PSV Eindhoven's marquee threats, putting up some impressive numbers.

His 16 goals and eight assists across all competitions have piqued the interest of some of football's biggest sides, including several Premier League outfits. Now, reports are linking him with a shock return to Spain that would see him team up with his former employers' biggest rivals.

Real Madrid lurking?

The club in question are Real Madrid, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes. Having missed out on the LaLiga title, Los Blancos could be set for a big summer window, and they have reportedly been eyeing Simons for quite some time.

Fichajes, however, also admits that the Dutchman, having ruled out a return to PSG, is focused on PSV for now, and would probably prefer a move to a Premier League giant in the future.

Versatile and exuberant, Simons would be an ideal signing for a Real Madrid side looking to freshen up and get younger. Plus, he could deputise in more than one position, either as a replacement for the ageing Luka Modric or out on the wings.

If the Spanish sides' interest were to become more concrete, they would have to battle it out with some English big hitters for Xavi Simons' signature.
