The Bundesliga is one of Europe’s top leagues and as such it is where a number of the world’s very best players enjoy plying their trade from one week to the next.
Whether it be exciting young defenders, phenomenal playmakers in the making or some of the continent's best strikers, the German top-flight has it all.
Here is a breakdown of the very best players in each position so far this season in our Bundesliga team of the season… so far.

GK: Gregor Kobel - Dortmund
While Dortmund would never be accused of being a boring, defensive side, new signing Gregor Kobel has brought some much-needed stability between the posts for the Bundesliga side.
Marco Rose’s side could certainly use some investment in defence in January, but they’ll be delighted with the return they’ve already had on the former Stuttgart shot-stopper this season.
RB: Thomas Meunier - Dortmund
While Thomas Meunier was undoubtedly one of Dortmund’s most underwhelming players last season, the Belgian full-back has bounced back this time around and been a huge asset for the club on the right flank.
So far this season, Meunier has bagged no less than four assists in all competitions - including vital ones against Bayer Leverkusen and Union Berlin - as well as countless dribbles and crosses as he bombs up and down the right wing seemingly unopposed.
CB: Nico Schlotterbeck - Freiburg
Although Freiburg may not be the most well-known club in German football, they have certainly been one of the most impressive in the Bundesliga this season.
With Christian Streich’s side pushing for a Champions League spot, the Black Forest side have built their success off of an imposing defensive line that takes no prisoners. Freiburg have the best defensive record in the division and at the heart of that has been young central defender Nico Schlotterbeck.
CB: Lucas Hernandez - Bayern Munich
It wasn’t so long ago that Lucas Hernandez’s time at Bayern was looking rather troublesome. The Frenchman was by no means agile enough to be a modern full-back and he was struggling to find a spot at centre back for the German giants.
However, following the departure of David Alaba and Jerome Boateng, Hernandez has stepped into the void and become not only Bayern’s best central defender but also one of their new senior leaders in the team. And so far this season he’s been one of the best centre backs in the Bundesliga.
LB: Alphonso Davies - Bayern Munich
There are few players in the world that are as good at playing in the left-back position as Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies.
As his six assists from the first half of the season amply prove, Davies is a speed demon that can happily glide by opposing midfielders and defenders with relative ease, often going on solo runs all by himself before setting up a goal for a team mate. No left-back in the Bundesliga - or perhaps across the whole of European football - comes close.
CM: Leroy Sane - Bayern Munich
Last season Leroy Sane looked far from fully fit and largely struggled in Hansi Flick’s Bayern side. However, this time around Julian Nagelsmann has changed the player’s game by moving himself to play like more of a No.10 and it has worked wonders.
From just 17 Bundesliga games to date, Sane has bagged no less than five goals and five assists and has been the single biggest improvement in Bayern’s side over the course of this current campaign. He may yet prove to be the spark that helps them go all the way in the Champions League.
CM: Florian Wirtz - Bayer Leverkusen
The only word to describe Bayer Leverkusen central midfielder this season is “phenomenon” as the young German talent has simply dominated just about every game he’s played in.
After coming through the club’s youth ranks last season, Wirtz has since established himself as a key player at Leverkusen with no less than five goals and eight assists in just 15 games for a club pushing for a top four finish.
CM: Jude Bellingham - Borussia Dortmund
Another exciting young midfielder plying his trade in the Bundeslgia is none other than former Birmingham City star Jude Bellingham, who has also established himself as a regular starter at Borussia Dortmund.
In the style of a classic No.8, Bellingham has been superb at breaking up opposing attacks and dancing through defences on his own in equal measure. The sky seems to be the limit for this young midfielder and he’s wasting no time in developing into a top talent in the Bundesliga this season.
FW: Erling Haaland - Borussia Dortmund
Little has to be said about Erling Haaland at this point. The Dortmund striker has been nothing short of remarkable, with a ridiculous 13 goals and five assists in just 11 league games this season.
While much of European football continues to discuss where he may end up next, it’s easy to forget that the striker is currently still very committed to putting on outstanding performances for Dortmund each and every week.
FW: Robert Lewandowski - Bayern Munich
Another striker that needs little introduction is Robert Lewandowski, who has long since established himself as one of the very best No.9s in all of world football thanks to his remarkable goalscoring record for Bayern.
So far this season the Poland international has slotted home 20 goals and one assists from 18 league games. A tally that is unmatched in the Bundesliga and will likely remain unmatched across Europe this season too.
FW: Thomas Muller - Bayern Munich
It’s perhaps easy to forget or take for granted the brilliance of Thomas Muller, who remains one of the most consistently brilliant forwards in European football even at the age of 32.
In 18 league games for Nagelsmann’s side this season, the Germany international has picked up an impressive five goals and 16 assists - a playmaking tally that is completely unmatched across Europe’s top leagues this season.
