Dortmund could line up a sensational transfer to bring Jadon Sancho back to the club this summer after the Manchester United winger was reportedly told that he is not wanted by Erik ten Hag.

Sancho joined United from the German side in 2021 for €85 million but the 23-year-old has struggled on and off the pitch and has started just 17 times in the Premier League this season.

German outlet BILD claim that Sancho ‘wants to flee as soon as possible’, having failed to convince Ten Hag of his credentials in attack, which led to the England international being given an extended leave of absence earlier in the season.

DESIRES: Sancho 'wants' Dortmund return

BILD state that, while there have not been direct talks between Sancho and Dortmund, club director Sebastian Kehl has been in constant contact with the player’s advisors and a return to Germany has not been ruled out.

However, Dortmund would be unable to afford a permanent move for Sancho, with FootballTransfers valuing him at around €57.5m and a return to the club would only be sanctioned if it was a loan move.

Sancho’s struggles in Manchester

United believed they had pulled off a massive coup when they beat their rivals to sign Sancho but the forward has proven inconsistent during his time at Old Trafford and has struggled to replicate his Dortmund form.

Sancho was twice named in the Bundesliga team of the season and he netted 50 goals in 137 appearances for Dortmund, however he has scored just 11 times in 72 games for United.

Despite Ten Hag’s struggles to get the most out of his attacking core, Sancho has often found himself on the bench behind the likes of Marcus Rashford and Antony, as well as Anthony Martial when fit.

However, he has become a more regular part of United’s team since his return from his absence in February, although he has grabbed just three goals and one assist in 20 games.

Sancho still has three years remaining on his contract and United are unlikely to sanction a departure unless they can recoup the significant outlay spent on him, meaning he is likely to be at Old Trafford next season.
