Real Madrid and Liverpool players made up the majority of UEFA's Champions League team of the season after their face-off in the final.

Karim Benzema's 15 goals in 12 Champions League games saw him named as the competition's player of the season, while Vinicus Junior won the young player award after his tournament-winning goal.

Which players were named in UEFA's Champions League Team of the Season?

Madrid shotstopper Thibaut Courtios unsurprisingly took his place in goal following his heroics in the final where he made nine saves to shut out Liverpool.

The Belgian also boasted the highest save percentage of any keeper (80%) and his 59 stops were the most of any keeper in the competition in nearly 20 years.

Despite being caught out for Madrid's match-winner, Trent Alexander-Arnold was named at right-back, largely due to his three assists in the tournament.

Dutch centre-back Virgil Van Dijk only conceded seven goals in his nine appearances which gave him a spot in the defence.

The other centre-back position went to a future Real Madrid player in Antonio Rudiger despite Chelsea being knocked out by the Spanish side in the quarter-finals.

Andrew Robertson completed the defence with the Scottish left-back grabbing three assists for Liverpool in nine starts.

In midfield, Luka Modric's dominating performance for Real saw him named as one of three central players, with three of his four assists coming in the knockout rounds.

Premier League player of the season Kevin De Bruyne was also named in the side after the Manchester City midfielder got two goals and three assists in nine starts.

Liverpool's Fabinho completed the midfield, with the Brazilian featuring in every one of Liverpool's 13 games in the tournament.

Going forward, Paris Saint-Germain striker Kylian Mbappe featured on the wing as the Frenchman netted six goals and four assists in just eight Champions League games.

Benzema and Vinicus Junior took the final two spots, the latter having scored four goals and six assists in his breakout season as a starter for Madrid.
