Erling Haaland will not be joining the long list of players to move from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Munich this summer, CEO Oliver Kahn says.

Haaland remains one of the hottest properties in world football, having enjoyed a prolific season with Dortmund.

Despite missing last weekend’s crunch Bundesliga win over RB Leipzig due to injury, the Norway international has played 38 times this season and has returned 37 goals and 11 assists.

Such prolific scoring form has attracted the attention of all Europe’s big clubs, although Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona are the names most readily linked with Haaland. In the case of the Spanish clubs, though, it appears highly unlikely they can afford him currently.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, have previously hinted that they are prepared to wait for a year until a minimum fee release clause in his deal becomes active.

When asked by Sport Bild over the prospect of a move, Kahn said: “Sorry, whoever speaks about that didn’t understand the situation yet. A package that costs — as we heard — over €100m is unimaginable for FC Bayern at the moment.”

Bayern prefer Lewandowski over Haaland

Kahn underlined that there is no point moving for Haaland when Robert Lewandowski remains so potent a force.

“Robert still has a two-year contract here,” said Kahn. “His performances cannot be questioned. He’s scored 39 goals so far! Just for that, we don’t have to think about Haaland, today. Robert can keep this level for a few more years.

“There are different types of players. With Manuel Neuer, for example, you feel that he can maintain this level until he’s 40. As long as Lewandowski is in top form, he will be important for the team.”

Indeed, Haaland’s scoring heroics for Dortmund have been firmly pushed into the shade by Lewandowski, who has netted 39 times in 27 Bundesliga matches and is chasing Gerd Muller’s single-season record of 40 with two fixtures remaining.
