‘Final decision made’: Barcola transfer update sparks Arsenal and Liverpool interest

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Bradley Barcola will not sign a new contract with PSG, putting both Liverpool and Arsenal on high alert for the France international.

Both Premier League clubs have been monitoring the situation of the winger at Parc des Princes as his situation has grown increasingly uncertain over the summer.

PSG have been negotiating with Barcola over a new deal for months but have now been told that the former Lyon player has broken off talks and is open to exploring a move away.

Barcola will not renew PSG deal

Barcola has made a “final decision” to refuse a contract extension, L’Equipe has reported.

It says that negotiations have broken off between the attacker and the club for sporting reasons. Wages do not seem to be an issue for Barcola, who was unhappy with his role as a 12th man at PSG and being on the bench for both Champions League final wins.

Romano confirmed via X: “Bradley Barcola will NOT sign new deal at Paris Saint-Germain, the decision is confirmed.

“He’s open to exploring a move this summer and will NOT sign new contract.

“Liverpool have Barcola at the top of their list.”

The player's decision has been questioned by those in the French media, with pundit Elton Mokolo telling the Winamax show: “Leaving PSG would be a monumental mistake for Bradley Barcola.

“He was a regular starter for a long time, and it's only an injury that's kept him out of the starting eleven with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia on fire. The grass isn't greener on the other side; PSG brings you closer to a Champions League spot than any other club.”

PSG will fight to retain Barcola

PSG’s stance has publicly been that the 23-year-old is not up for sale this summer, though this may need to change in light of these revelations.

But there is still no guarantee that he leaves Parc des Princes, particularly as PSG’s pursuit of Yan Diomande, who would have been a natural alternative, has stumbled amid accelerating interest from Real Madrid, which has changed the dynamic of that deal.

Head coach Luis Enrique wants to retain the player and indeed had hoped to keep him even if another winger arrived.

PSG remain in relative control of the situation. Barcola has two years to run on his contract with the two-time Champions League winners, and while his Estimated Transfer Value sits at €63.6 million, his asking price is liable to be put above €100m.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool are on the hunt for the winger, while Bayern Munich have also taken an interest but are likely to cool this as Madrid close in on Diomande, therefore negating the need to sign Michael Olise from the Bavarians.

PSG are not a side that typically sells players it wants to keep hold of, but Barcola has taken a major step towards the exit.
