Arsenal Transfer News Today: Gunners to offer Vinicus Junior biggest salary in club's history
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Arsenal transfer news, rumours and gossip, including updates on Vinicius Junior, Bradley Barcola and Bruno Guimaraes.
Arsenal to make Vini Jr highest-paid player in club’s history
Arsenal are prepared to make Vinicius Junior the highest-paid player in the club’s history in order to try and prise him away from Real Madrid this summer.
Vini Jr is currently believed to be on more than €500,000-per-week but Telegraph Sport report that Arsenal would look to improve those terms to maximise their chances of signing him, with finances not believed to be a barrier to their goal.
Real Madrid could be open to Vini’s departure this summer with the 26-year-old in the last year of his contract and still yet to come to a compromise over his wage demands for a renewal.
There has been no club-to-club contract between Arsenal and Real Madrid as of yet and Jose Mourinho is said to be ‘firmly against’ Vinicius’ sale but the Spanish giants would be forced to consider his sale to avoid losing the forward on a free next summer.
Arsenal set to miss out on Barcola
Barcola has two years remaining on his contract and it was confirmed that the 23-year-old will not sign a new deal, prompting PSG to put a €170 million asking price on his head.
As of yet, neither Liverpool or Arsenal have made a serious move for Barcola but the Merseysiders have put the winger at the top of their shortlist to replace Salah, putting the Gunners at risk of missing out and leaving them to focus on Vinicius.
However, reports have since emerged of Real Madrid being close to beating PSG to the signing Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig, which could see the French side opt against cashing in on Barcola, further complicating the situation.
Guimaraes issues ultimatum over Arsenal move
Bruno Guimaraes has reportedly given an ultimatum to both Arsenal and Newcastle to ensure his future is resolved by the time he is due to return to pre-season training next week.
Guimaraes is keen to join Arsenal but the Gunners have so far not made a serious approach to Newcastle, who are unwilling to sell their captain for reported €80 million fee being proposed by the Gunners.
Newcastle expect Guimaraes to report for pre-season training on 31 July and TEAMtalk report that the 28-year-old is keen to ensure he does not face daily questions over his future upon his return.
Personal terms are in place with Arsenal but Guimaraes is not believed to be threatening to go on strike like Alexander Isak last summer and instead has told the Gunners to accelerate talks and get closer to Newcastle’s valuation, believed to be in excess of €100m.
