Celtic transfer for 12-goal star confirmed: 'This is our record signing'

Lech Poznan have confirmed that they have exercised their purchase option in Luis Palma's loan deal from Celtic.

The 26-year-old is coming off a successful season both on a personal and team level. Palma spent the past nine months on loan in Poland, where he starred for Poznan as they successfully defended their Ekstraklasa title.

The Honduras international notched a very impressive 12 goals and produced 10 assists, alternating between a winger and a more central role behind star striker Mikael Ishak. Palma became a fan favourite at Poznan.

The fact that they have now triggered the €4 million option in his deal does not come as a surprise. It has been known for a few months that Lech were planning to make Palma's stay permanent, though his future has nevertheless generated plenty of speculation.

It was previously suggested by the Polish press that Lech could look to immediately sell Palma on for a profit. Given his numbers this season, he has attracted bigger European suitors. However, these rumours were dismissed by the club.

Palma joins Poznan permanently

Sporting director Tomasz Rzasa has now confirmed that he fully expects to keep Palma beyond this summer, with Lech keen to have the Honduran available for their Champions League qualifiers. Rzasa also announced that Palma has become the Polish club's record signing.

"We had a buyout clause in our loan agreement with Scottish side Celtic FC," the sporting director is quoted as saying in a club statement. "Therefore, the decision was ours from the start.

"We are pleased to announce that on Wednesday, June 3rd, we activated this clause, and Luis Palma officially became our player until June 30th, 2029. Understandably, we cannot disclose the exact fees, as they are confidential, but I can confirm that this is our record transfer to the club.

"Luis's achievements were impossible to ignore; he quickly integrated into the team and delivered exceptional quality on the pitch," Rzasa added. "The statistics confirm this.

"However, we were calm about all the speculation surrounding our player, knowing we held all the cards. That's why we waited until the end of the season and, after careful analysis, decided to acquire the winger from Celtic.

"We hope he continues to perform as well as he has so far and will help us from the start of the season, as we already face important challenges, such as the Champions League qualifiers. We are working hard to have the strongest possible squad during pre-season."
