Arsenal Transfer News Today: Alvarez told to avoid move as €92m target drifts away
FootballTransfers runs through the latest Arsenal transfer news on Friday 12 June, including fresh updates on Julian Alvarez, Mateus Fernandes, Eli Junior Kroupi and Manu Kone.
Alvarez told to shun Arsenal in favour of Atletico stay
Former Atletico Madrid striker Radamel Falcao has urged Julian Alvarez to shun interest from Arsenal and Barcelona and remain at the Metropolitano Stadium this summer, saying “there is no better place to be.”
The 26-year-old is Arsenal’s dream target ahead of the summer transfer window opening for Premier League clubs on Monday, 15 June, according to BBC Sport, while The Athletic understands the Argentina forward remains a priority signing for Barcelona ahead of the 2026-27 season.
But in an interview with ESPN, Falcao - who represented Atletico between 2011 and 2013, scoring 70 goals in 91 games - said: “I don't know what Atletico de Madrid has, but when you arrive people are so passionate and so affectionate with the player when they see that you give everything that you end up falling in love.
“The Atletico fans ended up making me fall in love and I really think Julian doesn't have a better place than this. There may be a project with more money, I don't think much more because Atletico was bought by a very important fund, but the passion and affection that the Atletico fan gives you is impressive.”
Fernandes set to join Man Utd ahead of Gunners
Arsenal are set to miss out on signing Mateus Fernandes as Manchester United edge closer to signing the in-demand West Ham United star in a €92million (£80m) deal, according to The Times.
The 21-year-old has attracted interest from Arsenal, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain, according to widespread reports, with relegated West Ham expected to sell as they look to cope without the Premier League’s riches next season.
And now according to The Times, United are increasingly confident of reaching an agreement to land Fernandes, having made strengthening their midfield a priority this summer.
Arsenal receive Kroupi boost as PSG cool interest
Arsenal have seen their hopes of signing Eli Junior Kroupi boosted after learning Paris Saint-Germain are backing away from their pursuit of Bournemouth’s teen sensation, according to reports in France.
The Gunners are keeping tabs on the Cherries striker, according to BBC Sport, after he scored an impressive 13 goals last season - more than any other teenager in their debut season in the Premier League.
And according to Canal Plus reporter Olivier Tallaron, PSG - who have also been strongly linked with Kroupi - are believed to be cooling their interest in the France Under-21 international.
Arsenal are showing interest in Roma ace Kone
Arsenal are interested in signing AS Roma star Manu Kone as they press ahead with plans to strengthen their midfield this summer, according to reports in France.
The 25-year-old has been excellent for the Serie A side over the last two seasons, playing a key role in helping Gian Piero Gasperini’s men qualify for next season’s Champions League by finishing third in 2025-26.
And now French outlet L’Equipe understands Arsenal are monitoring Kone, who has been included in France’s World Cup squad, with BBC Sport having previously detailed how the club are keen to sign a flexible midfielder this summer.
