Chelsea still in for Alvarez

Arsenal and Chelsea remain firmly in the mix for the signing of Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez, according to TEAMtalk.

Despite rumours that the Argentine was keen to stay in Spain and that he has already chosen to join Barcelona, his Premier League suitors are prepared to "push" for his arrival.

Arsenal and Chelsea are scouting the 26-year-old on a weekly basis. Signing him, however, would not be straightforward due to his high cost, likely to be north of the €100 million mark.

Chelsea identify Mercado

Chelsea have identified Independiente del Valle midfielder Patrik Mercado as a potential target, according to TEAMtalk.

The 22-year-old is the latest promising talent to be produced by the Ecuadorian club, following in the footsteps of Moises Caicedo, Kendry Paez and Piero Hincapie.

Primarily an attack-minded midfielder, Mercado is increasingly attracting European attention, and he is likely to make the cut for Ecuador's World Cup squad. He is fully expected to leave Independiente this summer.

Chelsea interested in Roefs

Chelsea are showing an interest in Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs, Alan Nixon claims.

The Dutchman has impressed in his first season of Premier League football after joining the Black Cats from NEC. Chelsea are keeping tabs on his performances amid ongoing uncertainty surrounding their goalkeeper department.

Liam Rosenior is unconvinced by Robert Sanchez and, despite Mike Penders returning from a Strasbourg loan in the summer, the Blues could opt to sign a new No.1 after this season. Sunderland would be willing to sell Roefs at the right price.

Moreira stars, Endrick falters

Chelsea scouts will surely have watched Sunday's game between Strasbourg and Lyon closely as it pitted their sister club against Endrick, a long-standing striker target.

However, the Brazilian failed to have much of an impact on the game. Instead, it was forgotten former Blues winger Diego Moreira who impressed the most with his performances.

The Belgian has developed brilliantly at Strasbourg, so he may yet have a future at Stamford Bridge.

Man Utd told to sign Hato

Netherlands international Jorrel Hato has struggled for game time since his summer move to Chelsea, increasingly prompting questions about his long-term future in West London.

Former Man Utd assistant Rene Meulensteen believes that the Red Devils should take advantage of the situation and target an audacious move for the Chelsea struggler.

"If I were a Premier League club, including Manchester United, and he's a viable option or will become one, I would definitely take him. He's still very young and has a lot of potential," Meulensteen said.

Chalobah to be sold

Chelsea will listen to offers for centre-back Trevoh Chalobah if they can find an adequate replacement, according to Football Insider.

The academy graduate has salvaged his Blues career on more than one occasion, but he is likely to leave the club in the summer amid strong interest from Aston Villa.

Chelsea attempted to sign Jeremy Jacquet in January, and they remain keen on adding a new marquee centre-back after missing out on the Frenchman to Liverpool.
