Fabrizio Romano delivers Arne Slot nightmare update as contract offer rejected
Liverpool manager Arne Slot still has a threat hanging over his job after the Anfield club’s poor start to the season, and Fabrizio Romano has made an announcement that will not be welcomed by the Dutchman.
Slot has endured a difficult start to his second season at Anfield, with the form of his team having collapsed dramatically after winning the Premier League last term.
A record summer spend leaves the Dutchman under particular pressure, while his fallout with star player Mohamed Salah has only magnified this.
While the attacker’s departure to AFCON might have provided the former Feyenoord boss with some relief, Romano has made an announcement that will only serve to remind Slot of the pressure he is under.
Glasner refuses Crystal Palace deal
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner, seen as one of the prime candidates to step into his role at Anfield, is ready to leave the South London side when his contract expires in the summer.
“One of the most appreciated managers in Europe, who is doing an incredible job, two trophies at Crystal Palace in the last year, Oliver Glasner, is definitely one to watch in 2026,” Romano told his YouTube channel.
“According to my information, Oliver Glasner has decided not to sign a new contract at Crystal Palace. The decision has been made after long discussions. It is not just about money; it is about projects and ideas.
“Despite selling players and making changes, he keeps delivering results and bringing trophies to the club, which is an incredible and surprising achievement for Crystal Palace.
“Remember this Christmas video, because in the next months, when top clubs around Europe explore new managers, Oliver Glasner will be one of the names in the managerial domino ahead of the summer transfer window.”
What this means for Arne Slot and Liverpool
For Slot, this is a nightmare development. There is a severely limited number of managers who have the calibre to replace him at Liverpool, but Glasner is certainly one the board will have their eye on.
Indeed, with the exception of Real Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso, he would likely be the No.1 choice to step into the Anfield hotseat.
Potentially available for nothing at the end of the season, this is a dire warning to Slot that Liverpool’s results need to improve – and quickly.
