Man Utd were humiliated on Wednesday night, losing to Grimsby in the Carabao Cup.

Against all logic and expectation, Man Utd went 2-0 down in the first-half and were nearly ran out of the stadium by a livewire Grimsby who, despite United drawing level in the second-half, ultimately triumphed on penalties.

The defeat was a huge embarrassment, with many United players putting in horrendous performances. Some of these players are lucky to still be at Old Trafford. In times gone by, United would have gotten rid of men for such a disastrous display.

Even though we're in a modern world, where United are no longer run by one of the greatest managers of all-time, and even though there are just a few days left of the summer window, Man Utd still need to get rid of these men for their own good.

But who needs to go? And why? FootballTransfers gets into it!

Bruno Fernandes

Now, Bruno Fernandes only came on at half-time against Grimsby. And it would be churlish to blame him for the defeat, but at the same time, when you bring your hotshot club captain off the bench to beat Grimsby... and he doesn't... is he really your hotshot club captain anymore?

Much has been made of Bruno's lack of "leadership" but he has and displays all the traits of a leader, his only weakness seems to be that no one really follows his leadership, at least not like they did before Cristiano Ronaldo showed up to "lil' bro" him.

Bruno doesn't really fit into a 3-4-2-1 that has Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo as starting 10's with Mason Mount a viable back-up, and instead has to play central midfield where he is taking a spot away from Kobbie Mainoo.

That cannot stand.

The rumours about Mainooleaving are anathaema to everything Man Utd stand for.

Thankfully there is a clear solution: sell Bruno Fernandes.

Al-Ittihad are rumoured to be interested in signing him, and while he's already rejected Saudi Arabia once this summer, Man Utd should push him to accept this offer.

Bruno's departure would see a massive €100 million pure profit for the club's PSR calculations, allowing them to go out and sign the likes of Carlos Baleba to play next to Kobbie Mainoo as well as the goalkeeper they desperately need.

Even if United ditch Amorim and go back to 4-2-3-1, between Mbeumo and Cunha the no. 10 role is fully occupied and there is no need for the Portuguese. Cunha even appears to have the same "heroball" gene that Bruno does. His role is redundant.

Bruno has been a magnificent servant for Man Utd, but the time has come for him to go.

Andre Onana

Andre Onana has been an unmitigated disaster at Man Utd. He is weak-wristed, meek coming off his line, has terrible instincts and often palms the ball back into danger.

Grimsby exploited him for goals, scoring what felt like every time they shot (two were ruled out for offside). Spurs won the Europa League because of him as well.

He terrifies his own defenders, inspires the opponent's attackers, and consistently puts Man Utd into losing positions with his nonsense performances.

The worst goalkeeper in the history of Manchester United.

He simply has to go.

Manuel Ugarte

Manuel Ugarte has put in two horrendous cameos in the Premier League games but got the start against Grimsby due to squad rotation and, somehow, played even worse against the League Two boys than he did against Arsenal and Fulham.

He's weak in possession, can't pass, can't track runners and for some reason given he's a tough-tackling Uruguayan defensive midfielder, he can't tackle! People walk through him like he's not even there!

Get rid.

Diogo Dalot

There's nothing objectively terrible about Diogo Dalot. In fact he's solid 6/10 across the board with occasional 8/10 crossing. But the thing is, he can't carry the ball.

He can't dribble. At all. And it's a big problem for Man Utd because they need their wing-backs to be able to dribble. They are constantly 1-v-1 out wide and if they can't do anything in that position then what is even the point?

Dalot was horrid against Grimsby for this exact reason. Rotten as a right wing-back, rotten as a left wing-back, middling as a left centre-back.

Time to go.

Altay Bayindir

The last misfit who needs to leave is Altay Bayindir. He didn't play against Grimsby, but he displays such weakness every time he takes the field that if United are going to get rid of Onana, then they may as well get rid of the Turk too.

Tom Heaton showed himself to be Man Utd's best goalkeeper through pre-season, and he should remain as the club's back-up.
