Real Madrid ‘open’ to Rodrygo sale

Real Madrid are ‘open’ to selling Rodrygo this summer, with talks set to open next week over his future after the Spanish side were knocked out of the Club World Cup.

Romano said: “Rodrygo wants clarity. Real Madrid will meet his camp next week, which will probably be the first of several meetings to clarify his future because he wants to understand what's going to happen next.

“Real Madrid are open to letting Rodrygo leave this summer. One year ago, when there were possibilities, Real Madrid closed the doors to his exit. Now, it's going to be different. Real Madrid are not closing the doors. If there is a good proposal, they are prepared to accept and Rodrygo has to decide now. Real Madrid say ‘we are open, it's on the player.’

“Now Rodrygo will have to decide whether he wants to go and try something new or compete for a place at Real Madrid but I can guarantee to you guys there is zero between Al-Nassr and Rodrygo. Al-Nassr didn't even start a conversation because they will not spend completely crazy money in terms of transfer fee.

“Rodrygo is a very expensive deal in case it happens. So Al-Nassr are not going for Rodrygo. Forget about it. And also he is not intentioned to go to Saudi Arabia at this stage of his career. Full focus on European football.”

Gyokeres ready to go ‘to war’ to seal Arsenal transfer

Romano also brushed off reports that Arsenal’s pursuit of Gyokeres was on the verge of collapse but he admitted the situation with Sporting is ‘tense’ and that the player is ready to ‘go to war’ for his move.

“I'm not aware of a deal of or collapsed for Viktor Gyokeres,” Romano said. “It's a tense situation for sure. It stands because Arsenal want to close the deal on their conditions while Sporting insist on their own conditions.

“So there is a small gap but it's still a gap and Sporting want their position to be respected but Arsenal are very relaxed. They're offering that money and they want to close the deal for that money. So at the moment the situation remains ongoing. The deal is not off.

“The conversation remains underway between Arsenal Sporting and all people involved in the deal but also the player here is crucial. This is not a traditional transfer where the player is at the club and if he's not going to Arsenal, well, he's going to play for the club again. No, Gyokeres is expected for training at Sporting officially, but he will not show up.

“Gyokeres has been very clear with Sporting. He spoke directly to the president telling him that he will not go anymore to Sporting to train, to play official games or whatever. So, the situation is completely broken. Now they have to find a solution.

“And after giving up €2m from his salary to put that money on the transfer fee, Gyokeres is still pushing. He will not go to training. He will not play for Sporting anymore and he's ready to go to war to go to Arsenal. He wants to go to Arsenal in a very strong and clear way after agreeing a five-year contract. So the deal is on at the moment from what I'm hearing. The conversation remains ongoing.”

Mbeumo still set for Man Utd transfer

Romano also insisted that Bryan Mbeumo was still on course to join Manchester United despite the slow progress towards a deal.

He said: “The Mbeumo deal for Manchester United has not been called off. It is not a similar situation to Gyokeres because Mbeumo is not in a war with Brentford but still a situation where Man United want to pay what they believe is a correct fee for him, while Brenford are asking for their money.

“The conversation is still ongoing between Man United and Brentford. Mbeumo is still pushing to go to Manchester United with an agreement on personal terms.

“It's the same story – negotiating, discussing the deal, structure, add-ons, they are working on it behind the scenes.”

Romano on Real Madrid, Tottenham and Luka Modric

Romano also touched on a number of stories including Tottenham, Real Madrid and Luka Modric.

On Tottenham: “Mohammed Kudus is having a medical with Tottenham and will be the first signing for Thomas Frank despite the reports of Maxime Esteve from Burnley, that was fake, there is nothing between Tottenham and him.

“But what's important to say is that Tottenham have signed Mohammed Kudus from West Ham for £55m paid in three years. So, everything done, everything okay for Kudus to Tottenham with the medical today and yesterday the ‘here we go.’

On Modric: “Luka Modric is saying ‘goodbye’ to Real Madrid and going to AC Milan, the deal is done. It was an exclusive story from the start of June and really shocking news at the time. But now the deal is done, a one-year contract for Modric at Milan until 2026. So Modric will arrive in August in Italy to be unveiled as new Milan player.”

On Real Madrid: “They will follow Xabi Alonso. The defeat against Paris Saint-Germain was obviously a bad defeat. But Real Madrid maintained their calm. It was the start of something new with Alonso and they will follow also his opinion.

“Real Madrid signed Dean Huijsen, for example, thanks to Alonso who was pushing for this deal to happen. They will follow Xabi’s indications on Alvaro Carreras, a player wanted also by Alonso not only by Real Madrid management, so they will be together in planning the squad for this season and for the future.

“Real Madrid will go together with the coach so this is the message coming very clear from the club. Alonso will be fully involved in the planning for the future of this summer transfer window, but also for the upcoming years.”
