Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has admitted that he would love to play alongside Barcelona wonderkid Lamine Yamal.

The England international is still in transfer limbo after Aston Villa opted against exercising their purchase option following his six-month loan at Villa Park. The Birmingham club's failure to qualify for the Champions League made a deal financially impossible.

Rashford is firmly on the outside looking in at Man Utd after failing to convince Ruben Amorim with his performances in training prior to his Villa move, and it is not expected that the Portuguese will give him a second chance.

The Red Devils homegrown is looking for a new club, and he is reportedly desperate for a move to Barcelona after already wanting to join them in January. At the time, a deal wasn't possible due to Ansu Fati's reluctance to leave Catalunya.

This summer, too, there is a major hurdle to overcome: Rashford is simply not a priority for the LaLiga champions. The Blaugrana initially wanted to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool, but they have now pivoted to Nico Williams after he made it clear that he wants to join them.

Rashford wants to play with Yamal

Rashford is currently keeping himself fit in Marbella, where he was recently visited by the Spanish YouTube channel xBuyer. Given his supposed keenness to join Barcelona and his recent social media comments under Lamine Yamal's posts, Rashford was asked about the 17-year-old star.

“Sure, everybody in the world wants to play with the best," Rashford responded when quizzed if he would like to play alongside Yamal, before adding: "Hopefully, we’ll see.

"It’s difficult to put into words what he’s doing because you’re not supposed to be doing that at his age. He’s playing at the highest level at 16. This alone is a skill, to have this mentality. It’s not normal to be able to do what he does."

Rashford also confirmed that he is enjoying his time in Spain. “Spain is nice, not too far from home. If I train here for a long time, it’s good because my family can come and see me for a few days, it’s only a three-hour flight. The weather is nice here.”
