Man Utd eye €35m transfer with Amorim seeking surprise upgrade on fan favourite

Manchester United could make a surprise transfer decision this summer with Ruben Amorim searching for upgrades to his squad having been unconvinced by the one of his first team regulars.
United are looking to make wholesale changes to their squad after a disastrous league campaign and they know their options could be significantly boosted by qualifying for next season’s Champions League with a win over Tottenham in the Europa League final next week.
But, while United’s top priorities are in attack, such as finalising transfers for Liam Delap and Matheus Cunha, Amorim could also look to strengthen his wing-back rotation despite his sole January signing coming in that area with the €30 million signing of Patrick Dorgu.
With wing-backs a fundamental part of Amorim’s system, the United boss is reportedly considering strengthening on the opposite flank to Dorgu by making a move for Monaco right-back Vanderson, according to GIVEMESPORT.
The report states that United have been alerted to Vanderson’s potential availability for a fee of around €35 million, which has tempted Amorim into making a move for a player he hopes could help take his side ‘to the next level’.
Amorim would prefer to field Amad Diallo further forward and Noussair Mazraoui at centre-back, while it is claimed that the club have ‘decided’ that Diogo Dalot is ‘not an ideal option’ at right-wing back, leading to the interest in Vanderson.
Man Utd could face Premier League competition for Vanderson
Vanderson has established himself as one of the standout right backs in Ligue 1 since his €11m move to Monaco in 2022, with the Brazilian often praised for his ability going forward and in defence.
United’s Europa League rivals Tottenham could also be their biggest rivals for Vanderson’s signature, although there is a belief that more clubs could also enter the race for the 23-year-old.
Liverpool are said to have discussed Vanderson’s name when considering replacements for Trent Alexander-Arnold, although Arne Slot’s side are now focused on Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong instead.

Manchester City could also be approached by the player’s representatives due to their interest in signing a wing-back this summer, with the likes of Tino Livramento and Andrea Cambiaso on Pep Guardiola’s shortlist.
Barcelona are also said to have ‘turned Vanderson’s head’ with their interest, meaning United could face competition if they stall on a move for the youngster, with Amorim likely to only pursue a deal once other priorities have been resolved.
