Arsenal will look to spend big this summer to continue on the path to becoming one of the top sides in Europe, although Mikel Arteta will likely need to sell some players in order to continue splashing the cash.

The Gunners spent more than €200 million on players last summer but saw their Champions League hopes end at the quarter-final stage, while their push for the Premier League title appears to have fallen short for a second successive season.

Thomas Partey

Arteta has kept his first team rotation relatively small, meaning some players such as Thomas Partey have found themselves on the fringes of the squad, particularly due to his injury concerns.

Despite being a crucial player last season, the 30-year-old has made just four Premier League starts this season and is entering the final year of his contract in North London.

Both Partey and Arteta have insisted that they have no desire to push for an exit and could even see a contract extension happening but, with the Ghanian being one of the highest earners at the club, a reasonable bid will likely see the midfielder leave.

Emile Smith Rowe

Arsenal know that academy graduates will represent pure profit on the books, meaning players like Emile Smith Rowe will represent tempting sales, especially given the youngster’s limited playing time this season.

Smith Rowe has only made three Premier League starts and the 23-year-old has grown frustrated with his role and could be sold on despite Arsenal turning down an offer of more than €40m from Chelsea last summer.

The midfielder is still a fan favourite and admired by Arteta but he has struggled to prove his worth the Spaniard and has also generated interest from Premier League rivals.

Fabio Vieira

Another player who has been somewhat forgotten this season has been Fabio Vieira, with the 23-year-old starting just twice in the Premier League.

The Portuguese international joined Arsenal for €35m in 2022 but he has struggled for first team football since his move from Porto, making just five league starts in his two seasons.

Arteta seemingly has not trusted the playmaker to deputise in the number eight role, particularly with the form of captain Martin Odegaard, and any interest in Vieira would likely be taken seriously.

Eddie Nketiah

While most players on this list so far have been fringe figures, one first team regular who could be sold is Eddie Nketiah, with Arteta likely to push for a new striker this summer.

Nketiah has failed to press on and establish himself as a reliable goalscorer, scoring just five times in 27 Premier League appearances this year.

The 24-year-old also represents pure profit as an academy graduate and, with the likes of Crystal Palace said to be interested, Nketiah could be one of the first names out the door this summer.

Aaron Ramsdale

Despite previously suggesting that he would rotate between his two keepers, Arteta has firmly been behind David Raya as his number one shot-stopper, with the Spaniard’s loan from Brentford being made permanent.

It has left Aaron Ramsdale out in the cold and the 25-year-old will likely look to move on, having initially been keen to fight for his place under Arteta.

However, Ramsdale’s form during his limited appearances has been underwhelming so it is unlikely that Arsenal will receive their desired valuation for him, meaning it is also possible he remains at the club as a backup next season.
