Jadon Sancho is close to leaving Manchester United in the January transfer window, with Borussia Dortmund set to complete a sensational deal to recapture the winger, according to football transfer news expert Fabrizio Romano.

Sancho has been on the periphery at Man Utd since early September when he had a spectacular public falling out with manager Erik ten Hag.

After refusing to apologise for a social media post in which he claimed he had been made a “scapegoat”, the England winger has failed to play a single minute of football and has not even been training with Man Utd’s first team.

The 23-year-old seemed to have limited options heading into the January window due to his large wages, but it appears that he will complete a switch back to Dortmund on loan in the days ahead.

Sky Germany announced on Tuesday that BVB were working on a six-month deal for the Man Utd star, with a €3.5 million loan fee set to head back to Man Utd.

Sancho pushing for Dortmund return

Although there is rumoured interest from Premier League rivals West Ham, Sancho is reportedly eager to return to Dortmund, who sold him to the Red Devils in 2021 for €85 million.

Sancho is “pushing for the move”, Romano reports, and he claims that a “deal is more than concrete at this stage”.

The former Manchester City youth played 137 times for Dortmund in his previous spell with the Bundesliga club, scoring 50 goals and creating 64 more during that time.

Such form saw his Expected Transfer Value (ETV) climb as high as €109m but this has fallen dramatically to just €32m.

A loan deal is likely to suit all parties, with this spell in Germany an opportunity for Sancho to regain his reputation and value ahead of the summer, at which point Man Utd could either sell him permanently or look to reintegrate him into the squad if Ten Hag departs.
