Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim has addressed the reports linking him to the Manchester United job.

The pressure on Erik ten Hag has been turned up to eleven. Even when Man Utd were on a three-game winning run, the performances still left a lot to be desired and the Red Devils' glaring shortcomings have been mercilessly exploited in recent games.

After back-to-back 3-0 home losses, the Dutchman is once again being questioned - and for good reason. Despite two summers of lavish spending, Man Utd look lacklustre and devoid of ideas, a massive indictment of Ten Hag's work given that he was hired to affect the exact opposite.

The club hierarchy had looked to Ten Hag because they wanted him to implement that swashbuckling style that saw his Ajax side take Europe by storm, but he has completely failed in this endeavour, and he even recently admitted that he can't execute this task with this Man Utd squad.

After getting dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle in midweek, The Times claimed that Ten Hag is "on thin eyes" and could be a dead man walking. While United "categorically denied" this report, calls for Ten Hag to be sacked are growing - but who should replace him?

Among the potential options is highly rated Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim, who boasts a €10 million release clause, and the Portuguese has now addressed the rumours.

What did Amorim say?

Speaking after a comfortable 4-2 over Farense, the 38-year-old said: "This year I’m not going to go back to the same conversation as last year. I’m not going to make any kind of comment on these situations. We don’t know the future, it depends on the results."

"Regarding the future, I have an idea for the end of the season but I won’t say it now. But the results and the context take us to something different. I don’t want to be commenting on these things. I have not been contacted by Manchester United."

"I’m not going to be commenting on that," Amorim said regarding his exit clause. "I will respect the contract, everything that is there will be fulfilled."
