Bayer Leverkusen are one of Europe's most exciting teams this season, but they will likely get picked apart in the summer.

The likes of Florian Wirtz, Victor Boniface and Jeremie Frimpong will be - and already are - sought-after commodities come the summer and the latter, it has now been revealed, is fully expected to depart Xabi Alonso's side in 2024.

That's at least according to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg. The journalist claims that Leverkusen have resigned themselves to losing Frimpong and they could do so for a relatively trifling fee. As initially reported by BILD and now confirmed by Sky, the Dutchman has a release clause of €40 million.

While this fee is nothing to scoff at, the 22-year-old is already valued at €48.7m by FootballTransfers' in-house algorithm and this is only bound to increase if he keeps up his absurd form that has seen him notch six goals and seven assists so far this term. Frimpong and his camp likely insisted on this affordable clause when he extended his deal a few weeks ago after failing to get a move in the previous transfer window.

According to Plettenberg, the player is 'very keen on a transfer,' therefore it is no surprise that his fresh release clause is not all that expensive.

Man Utd target

Frimpong is a long-standing Manchester United target. The Red Devils were heavily linked with a move in the summer but ultimately didn't have the necessary resources to sign an upgrade for the right-back position, which is an area that continues to give Erik ten Hag headaches.

More recently, reports have begun crediting Chelsea, Liverpool and Real Madrid with an interest in the wing-back, who is more forward than defender at this point. Liverpool could be in the market for a right-back who would allow Jurgen Klopp to consistently unleash Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield, but whether the ultra-attack-minded Frimpong is the right option is doubtful.

Real Madrid are looking for a long-term successor to Dani Carvajal and Frimpong's playstyle would certainly be suited to LaLiga football. As for Chelsea, perhaps they are thinking about a potential replacement for Reece James. The club captain has done himself no favours in recent times in terms of his antics on and off the pitch and continues to be linked with the likes of Man City and Real Madrid.
