Mason Greenwood has been offered a route back into international football by Jamaica coach Heimir Hallgrimsson.

The disgraced Manchester United forward is currently on loan at LaLiga side Getafe in a bid to get back up to speed after not playing football following his arrest in January 2022 on suspicions of attempted rape, engaging in controlling behaviour, and assault.

Charges were ultimately dropped, but the Red Devils' plans to reintegrate the 22-year-old into Erik ten Hag's first team were met with massive public outcry, forcing club chiefs to backpedal and send the one-time England international out on loan instead.

At Getafe, Greenwood has been getting back to fitness. After recording his first assist against Athletic Club in late September, the winger notched his first goal for his Spanish side at the weekend against Celta Vigo.

With the international break in full swing now, Greenwood has been offered hope of resurrecting his international career - but not with England.

Jamaica want Greenwood

Already rumoured in the summer, Jamaica coach Heimir Hallgrimsson has now confirmed that the nation's FA is trying to persuade Greenwood to switch his allegiances.

Despite featuring for the senior English team once, the 22-year-old still has the ability to switch to Jamaica, where he would play alongside Premier League players like Michail Antonio and Ethan Pinnock.

"We would like to have the best talent on our team," Hallgrimsson recently said. "If he [Greenwood] gets his former fitness and former levels, then for sure he would have that level to help Jamaica."

For now, however, the winger will be focused on trying to reach the levels he showed before he was arrested. Greenwood was once regarded as one of England's brightest prospects, but the decision by Man Utd and Getafe to allow him to play again after his girlfriend shared shocking visual and audio footage of the alleged abuse was controversial, to say the least.
