Manchester United will be watching events unfold at Tottenham very carefully in the hours, days and weeks to come, following the indictment of owner Joe Lewis in the US.

Lewis has been charged with “orchestrating a brazen insider trading scheme”, and the consequences of this could be immediately felt by the Premier League club.

US attorney Damian Williams said that Lewis “has been indicted and will face justice”.

This news has the potential to put Tottenham in crisis, and with Kane holding only a year left on his deal, this could prompt them into a sale of their most valuable asset.

Man Utd want Kane

FootballTransfers has confirmed that Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag still sees Kane as his ideal option in the No.9 role, and even if Rasmus Hojlund is signed from Atalanta, the Dutchman would like a more experienced player to act as his mentor. Kane would fit perfectly into this role.

While the Kane transfer appears to have been blown open by the news of Lewis’ indictment, United have ground to make up in the race.

Bayern Munich and PSG are reportedly advancing in talks with the England captain, who turns 30 later this week, while Tottenham would prefer to sell to a club that is not a direct rival.

In addition to this, Man Utd are in a position of stasis themselves, with the stalling takeover deal being orchestrated by the Glazer brothers thwarting Ten Hag from conducting the overhaul of the squad he would like in the transfer window.

If the Red Devils can get things together on their side to muster a big offer for Kane, though, there is an increasing possibility that Tottenham would accept a bid.

Spurs have yet to comment on the charges placed against Lewis, whose fortune is estimated around the $6.1 billion mark, and so it is unclear if and when their stance on Kane may change.
