Marcus Thuram is willing to remain at Borussia Monchengladbach until his contract expires in the summer - unless one of his favoured clubs makes a move this window.

The attacker has been linked to Inter Milan, Aston Villa Newcastle and Manchester United over a possible move in the January transfer window - but, according to Bild, there is an understanding now that he will remain in the Bundesliga until 2023 - that is unless one of his preferred clubs come in.

The Frenchman is gunning to finish the season as top-scorer in the German league while Gladbach believe Thuram could help them qualify for the Europa League.

But the plan could be foiled if one of his four ‘dream’ clubs - Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, Man Utd or Paris Saint-Germain - come in for him this January. Furthermore, despite interest Thuram has no desire to join clubs such as Newcastle and Aston Villa.

The striker has had a great season so far, scoring 10 goals in the first half of the campaign. It makes him, as it stands, second in the goal-scoring chart, joint with Niclas Fullkrug - and just two behind Christopher Nkunku, who’s in first place.

It is a stark contrast from last season when Thuram scored just three goals in 21 games.

Further developments

FootballTransfers was informed by sources last year that the player would likely move to Inter - but various reports suggested that Man Utd and Newcastle had their eye on him as well.

Eddie Howe is still after a player who can play a variety of roles in attack - while Erik ten Hag hopes to find a cheap replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who left as a free agent and joined Saudi Professional League club Al-Nassr late last year.
