Depay Barcelona move in doubt as he admits other clubs could be interested

Memphis Depay has cast some doubt on any proposed move to Barcelona by claiming that there could be other clubs interested in his services.

When Ronald Koeman took over as boss of the Blaugrana in the summer, he asked that the club sign Depay and Gini Wijnaldum, with both transfers failing to materialise due to the club’s current financial constraints.

  • It was generally believed that Barcelona would either look to sign Depay for a cut-price fee in January, or sign him on a pre-contract agreement, with his current deal with Lyon running out this summer.

When asked if there had been any developments over the move, Depay initially said he was “100% with Lyon” at the moment.

“To be honest, we have a great team here. I don’t know what will happen next year,” he Dutchman told reporters.

“I’m an OL player, the captain, and I’m here to win things, games and being important for the team.

“This is my main goal. If I start thinking about my future, I might lose my focus. I am 100% with OL. What will happen in the future, we’ll see. That’s what I’ve always said.”

When pressed again for more information, Depay suggested that there might be more clubs in addition to Barcelona who might be looking at him.

“I can’t say anything about it. I’m here now, a lot of clubs might be interested,” he claimed.

Lyon are currently top of the table in Ligue 1 and defeated PSG 1-0 in a crunch match in the French top flight over the weekend.

Depay has been key to their impressive form, contributing 10 goals in 11 starts via six scored himself plus four assists.

FootballTransfers previously looked at which clubs could potentially usurp Barcelona to a Depay transfer.
