Injuries have prevented former Manchester United target Ansu Fati from furthering his development at Barcelona in the 2021-22 season.

The 19-year-old broke into the first-team squad in the 2019-20 campaign, scoring seven goals in 11 La Liga starts.

However, he missed the majority of last season with a serious knee injury. He returned in September, starting the latest campaign well, before spending even more time on sidelines.

Then, Fati managed just three games before another setback saw him out of action for a further three months.

Although, the youngster made a substitute appearance in Barcelona's 2-1 win over Mallorca on Monday.

One of La Masia's most talented graduates, he will be hoping to stay fit for the remainder of the season before showcasing his skills for the entirety of the next.

Fati should be a key part of head coach Xavi Hernandez's plans going forward, with 14 goals in 20 league starts indicating that he should be part of an exciting core of youngsters at the club for years to come.

The Spaniard will join Pedri, Gavi and Ronald Aruajo as players to have broken into the first-team picture at Camp Nou in recent times.

Fati to Man Utd?

Fati had been linked with a move to Manchester United, but he insists he was never tempted by a move to Old Trafford.

''No, honestly,'' he told Sport Bible. ''Barca have given me everything. This is my club.''

The youngster, tipped to be the next world star to come through La Blaugrana's famous academy, is keen to return the club to the heights of yesteryear.

''My main ambition is to win titles with Barca,'' he added. ''To achieve that for the club and the fans is my number one goal.

''If this means I also achieve personal records, then amazing. I’ll work hard and stay dedicated.''
