Real Madrid and Manchester City are in pole position to land Jamal Musiala if he decides to leave Bayern Munich, reports from Germany indicate.

The former Chelsea youth is regarded as one of the hottest prospects in the world game and has attracted a great deal of attention thanks to his blistering displays for FCB since making his first-team debut in 2020.

Now 20, the midfielder already boasts 25 Germany international caps and has won four Bundesliga titles with FCB. He was also a member of the squad that won the Champions League in 2020, but Sky Sports Deutschland has indicated that if he feels that his club are not in a position to reach such heights again, he could look to move on.

Although it is stressed that there is no present risk of Musiala leaving in the “near future”, the fact that he has a contract that expires in 2026 could ultimately raise questions over his commitment in 18 months.

With an annual salary of €9 million, Musiala could be better paid at several of Bayern’s European competitors.

But he is not looking to advance his salary and instead wants team and individual glory.

“If he manages to win the Ballon d’Or at FC Bayern, that’s an individual goal and what he wants to achieve,” Sky reports.

Bellingham could have a role to play

If Musiala does leave, though, Real Madrid are one of the favourites to capture the youngster, in part due to the presence of Jude Bellingham, the player’s friend, at the Bernabeu.

The England international star has been a smash hit in the Spanish capital since making a summer move from Borussia Dortmund, netting in all three Champions League matches they have played this summer.

It is noted the Real Madrid president Florentino Perez would love to unite the pair on the field.

Manchester City also hold an interest that is thought to be interesting but Liverpool’s chances of landing the player in a summer swoop are downplayed, with Bayern unlikely to accept any bids in 2024.
