Andre Onana is considering quitting the Cameroon national team after a disastrous Africa Cup of Nations campaign.

Cameroon were eliminated from the last-16 of the competition after a 2-0 defeat by Nigeria.

Onana only played in one of Cameroon’s four matches.

He missed the opener against Guinea after he missed a flight, having played for Man Utd in their 2-2 draw against Tottenham.

Onana played the next match against Senegal, but was to blame for two of the goals in a 3-1 defeat.

Amidst reports of a blazing row with Cameroon chief Samuel Eto’o, Onana was then dropped for the 3-2 win over Gambia in the final group game.

Cameroon qualified without Onana for the last-16 and Onana was again benched for the 2-0 defeat by Nigeria.

According to reports in Cameroon, Onana is weighing up whether to retire from international football.

This would not be the first time Onana has retired from international football. He did the same after the 2022 World Cup, during which he was sent home in the group stages after disciplinary problems.

Onana problems at Man Utd

This is just the latest setback in what has been a disastrous season for Onana at Man Utd.

Onana was expected to become a star at Old Trafford after his €51 million - plus €4m in bonuses - summer transfer from Inter Milan.

The 27-year-old had enjoyed an outstanding Champions League season with the Nerazzurri last term, playing a key role in their run to the final.

He kept more clean sheets than anyone in the tournament, including five in the knockout rounds, as Inter narrowly and unluckily lost 1-0 to Man City in the showpiece in June. He was also heralded as the best goalkeeper in the world with the ball at his feet.

However, Onana has endured a disastrous start to his Man Utd career, with the Red Devils way off the pace in the Premier League, and already out of Europe and the League Cup.

He has made a host of costly errors, most notably in the Champions League defeats to Galatasaray and Bayern Munich.

Onana’s problems with Cameroon will further add to the pressure he is under at Man Utd.
