Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta insists that their currently slightly improved form will not have an affect on how they conduct themselves in the upcoming January transfer window.

The Gunners have been poor in 2020/21, having won just six out of their first 16 games to sit 13th in the Premier League table.

  • Arteta found himself under massive pressure as we approach the turn of the year, but has earned a slight reprieve as Arsenal have won their last two matches.

On Boxing Day, they impressively defeated London rivals Chelsea 3-1, while they emerged narrow 1-0 victors versus Brighton in their last fixture on Tuesday.

Their previous form led to vexatious talk of a potential relegation, but they are now nine points clear of the dropzone, even if that still won’t be nearly good enough in the eyes of Arsenal fans.

It is clear that reinforcements are needed in the next transfer window, with Arteta reportedly targeting a right-sided central defender to partner summer signing Gabriel, allowing the Spaniard to continually play his preferred back four.

Even though things have gotten a bit better over the past week, Arteta says their transfer targets remain the same.

“No, the last few results won’t change our approach to the window,” he bluntly responded when asked about January.

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Real Madrid attacking midfielder Isco recently, but when asked about his compatriot Arteta refused to comment.

“Obviously we cannot talk about individual players,” he added.

Arsenal’s next game sees them travel to West Brom on 2 January.
