Ramsey threatened with exile by Juventus for refusing transfers

Juventus have threatened to leave Aaron Ramsey in the stands for the rest of the season unless he agrees a January transfer window departure to another club.

The Bianconeri are poised to complete the €75 million transfer of Dusan Vlahovic from Fiorentina and so need to trim their wage bill significantly in order to save money.

Ramsey is one of the highest-earning players at the club despite hardly kicking a ball this season.

In the 2021/22 campaign under Massimiliano Allegri, he has started just one Serie A match and made just five appearances in all competitions.

Allegri said in the build-up to a match versus Milan that Ramsey will leave this month, saying:

“Aaron has tested negative for Covid-19 but, as you know, he’s not with the team and is set to leave the club [this month]."

However, the player has already reportedly rejected moves to Newcastle, Burnley and Crystal Palace.

Juventus are becoming increasingly frustrated at the player's stance, and according to Italian outlet Il Bianconero, they are prepared to let Ramsey sit in the stands for six months and not play before allowing him to leave on a free transfer.

Ramsey's contract expires in June of 2022.

The Welshman has made 70 appearances in three years for Juve, scoring six goals and recording six assists.

Should Arsenal sign Ramsey?

Ramsey has also been linked with a return to Arsenal, the club he served before making the move to Italy.

A return to Arsenal has been mentioned previously and met with scepticism.

But, Ramsey proved at Euro 2020 that he can sill perform to his best, and it isn't an exaggeration to say that he would perhaps be Arsenal's best central midfielder should he make a return.

Yes, Arsenal need more than one signings in central midfield and Ramsey should not be treated as a marquee acquisition.

But, he would be available at a knockdown price, while the club can afford to pay at least a decent amount of his wage demands.

The current crop of midfielders at the club have proved time and time again that they cannot be trusted, especially Granit Xhaka, and new blood is required.

Though, perhaps old blood is an option too.
