CONFIRMED: Gyokeres splits with girlfriend over transfer
Viktor Gyokeres has split with girlfriend Ines Aguiar – and one of the big driving factors in the breakup is the desire of the Sporting CP striker to move to Arsenal.
Rumours have circulated in the Portuguese tabloids for several days that the pair are no longer together after images appeared on social media of them enjoying holidays in different locations.
It has now been confirmed that Gyokeres decided to break with the actress.
TV Guia reports: “Viktor doesn’t want anything to tie him to Portugal, especially because he has already decided that he will not continue at Sporting next season.
“Before going on holiday, he spoke to Ines, explained what he felt and she was already prepared in a way, although it was something that was difficult for her because she liked him a lot.”
Gyokeres battling Sporting for Mykonos
Gyokeres’ departure from Sporting continues to be something of a soap opera, with the 27-year-old Sweden striker still unsure of his destination.
The former Coventry City striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in recent times, with Arsenal and Manchester United both interested in him. Gyokeres is giving his priority to the North London club and has agreed terms for a five-year contract at the Emirates Stadium.
While clubs jostle to get into line to sign him, there is a war being waged between the player and Sporting. Gyokeres has told the Lisbon club he will not play or train for them again.
Indeed, Sporting returned to pre-season training on 1 July. That same day, the striker posted an image of himself working out with a personal trainer on Mykonos.
Gyokeres’ anger towards the club has been fuelled by the belief that Sporting have gone back on an agreement last summer to sell him for €60m plus €10m in bonuses – a figure that Frederico Varandas, the president of the club, has gone public in saying they will not accept.
Until this wrangle is somehow resolved, Gyokeres’ future remains uncertain.
