Barcelona asked the forward to be patient as they weaved through their financial difficulties, and will be happy to get the deal over the line.

Now, Lewandowski, has revealed his reasons for getting the move through, and has several motivations behind his transfer to Catalonia.

Lewandowski reveals Barcelona motivations

Speaking to the club’s in-house media channels, he said: “A new challenge but always I am the guy who wants to win not only the game but also the titles.

"I always wanted to play in La Liga. I wanted to play for the big clubs and now this opportunity that I had. Also for my private life it's a new challenge that I have.

“At Barca it's time to get back on track so I am here to help Barcelona to be on the top. And to win as many titles as possible."

The 33-year-old also discussed working with Xavi, and how the former midfielder convinced him to make the move to the Camp Nou for the next stage of his career.

Lewandowski believed that the manager’s ideas were right for the club going forward: "I was speaking with Xavi and from the beginning. I knew that his mind and ideas were going in a good way.

“Going with this idea, that, for me, was easy to decide to come to Barcelona because I know that I'm the guy who wants to play and wants to win, and I think that with Xavi it's very possible.

“He knows exactly how he should coach Barcelona because he was an amazing player. And now he is also a very good coach and I want to be part of this as well."

Lewandowski could make his Barcelona debut in a big friendly against Clasico rivals Real Madrid, as part of their pre-season preparations in the United States.

They will be hoping for a better 2022-23 campaign, following their second-place finish in La Liga last season, and will want to go far in the Champions League.
