Erik ten Hag is looking to rebuild at Manchester United this summer as he plots an assault on the Premier League next term, and his clear order of transfer priorities has been revealed.

Ten Hag was well backed in the transfer market after arriving from Ajax last summer, bringing Lisandro Martinez and Antony with him for a combined transfer outlay of more than €150 million.

But there is still work to be done. Cristiano Ronaldo's void at No.9 hasn't been filled with last season's 30-goal top scorer Marcus Rashford doing his best work from the left wing, while the game seems to have evolved past David de Gea, a fine shot-stopper whose distribution is lacking.

But a new goalkeeper is not necessarily second on Ten Hag's list of priorities, as reported by the Independent's Miguel Delaney.

Mason Mount still a priority

"[Manchester United's] primary concern for the summer… is the search for a new No 9," he writes. "United's next priority is [Chelsea midfielder] Mason Mount. If there is much [budget] left, Ten Hag wants a goalkeeper to challenge David De Gea… and another winger."

Harry Kane has long been considered United's top transfer target but Tottenham Hotspur chairman Daniel Levy is loath to sell him to a Premier League rival and Real Madrid have entered the race following Karim Benzema's departure to Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

Atalanta's Rasmus Hojlund is a cheaper alternative, while the Mount transfer has become more complicated, with new Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino reportedly keen to keep him at Stamford Bridge whether or not he signs a new contract.

Portugal No.1 Diogo Costa was United's top target to replace De Gea, but he signed a new contract at Porto last November that includes a release clause of €75m. With Alejandro Garnacho's rise and Rashford freed up to play on the wing, a wide man is understandably down the list of priorities.
